A parallel universe would appear to require the existence of supernatural phenomena that we cannot comprehend with our limited sensory perception. If that's the case, are we then trapped in a finite existence through sheer cosmic accident?

Quite right.
We would not be able to detect or perceive parallel universes, nor would they be able to detect or perceive ours.
If they exist, they will always be a theoretical reality, not an objective one.

But superstring theory postulates the existence of other universes (a multiverse) outside our own universe. Its not so much a supernatural phenomenon the way we define that as it is "extra-natural" in that its beyond our ordinary experience but possible in advanced physics.

We cannot with our 'limited sensory perception'...but that is what psychedelics our for to expand the mind. Start low than work ur way up to DMT. It showed me spirtiual meaning and that there is much more than a material world. DMT is naturally produced in the brain during dreaming. The DMT experience is short, but generally incredibly intense. Onset is fast and furious, sometimes compared to being launched from a cannon. It is a fully engaging and enveloping experience of visions and visuals which varies greatly from one individual to the next. Users report visiting other worlds, talking with alien entities, profound changes in ontological perspective, fanciful dreamscapes, frightening and overwhelming forces, complete shifts in perception and identity followed by an abrupt return to baseline

What you just did was basically compare mass with length; anything that is not lawed by our physics and what not, is completely irrelevant to our existence.

a parallel universe is anything that isn't our universe, it can make slight sense, or it could be unfathomable. Considering we go by the "units" of our five senses, any other phenomenon is unfathomable and variable.

so if our universe does not interact in the least bit with a parallel universe, then it is better to say this is no such thing.

Do you think if we managed to "break through" our "limited sensory perception," and travelled to the parallel universe, Leonard Nimoy would have a beard?
