How about the most famous dance song of them all - The Twist? It was originally recorded by Hank Ballard & The Midnighters but the cover version by Chubby Checker is more famous. It reached number one twice on the charts, first in 1960 and again in 1962. That song spawned a major dance craze in the early 1960s.
