Perimeters are equal

2007-09-29 21:56:14 · answer #1 · answered by Como 7 · 0 0

Perimeter = 2(sum of the dimensions)

perimeter of A = 2(l+w) = 2(4+8) =24 in

perimeter of B = 2(l+w) = 2(5+7) = 24 in

Area = product of dimensions

area of A = 4*8 = 32 sq.in

Area of B = 5*7 = 35 sq. in

so perimeters are equal

2007-09-29 23:50:05 · answer #2 · answered by mohanrao d 7 · 0 1

Perimeter of a rectangle is 2(l+b)
So, for Rect. A
perimeter= 2(4+8)= 2(12)=24 in
For rectangle B,
Perimeter= 2(5+7)= 2(12)= 24 in
So their perimeters are equal.
Let's check their areas
Area of a rectangle= l*b
Area of Rectangle A= 4*8= 32 sq in
Area of Rectangle B= 7*5= 35sq in

So their perimeters are equal.

Equation for perimeter of a rectangle is p= 2(l+w)

A: P= 2(4+8)
=2(12)
P= 24

B: P=2(7+5)
= 2(12)
P=24

The statement is true. Both perimeters of rectangle A and rectangle B is 24 units.

2007-09-29 23:46:26 · answer #4 · answered by Irrelavant 3 · 0 1

Perimeter = 2(Length + Width)
Area = Length x Width

You notice that half perimeter are the same
4 + 8 = 12
5 + 7 = 12

Whereas the areas are not the same
4 x 8 = 32
5 x 7 = 35

So, the statement, "The perimeters are equal" is true
The statement, "Their areas are equal" is false.

WHAT???
You honestly don't know how to calculate this???
Their perimeters are equal (both of them are 24") but the area of the 4 X 8 is 32 sq inches and the other one is 35 sq in.

Area
4in x 8in = 32in²

5in x 7in = 35in²

Perimeter
4in(2) + 8in(2)
= 8in + 16in
= 24in

5in(2) + 7in(2)
= 10in + 14in
= 24in
