Parallel to the line 2x -y = -2; containing the point (0,0)

for two lines to be parallel their slopes must be equa;
line 2x -y = -2
y=2x+2 m=2
m1=m2=2
at P(0,0)
y-y1=m2(x-x1)
y-0=2(x-0)
y=2x

First put the equation 2x -y = -2 into slope-intercept form as
y = 2x + 2 Now you know that the slopw of the line you want is 2 so it has the equation
y = 2x + c where c is some constant. To find c, pit the coordinates of the desired point it passes through into the equation for the x and y values and solve it for c. In this case
0 = 2*0 + c => c = 0 and the equation is
y = 2x

The line 2x - y = -2 does not pass through the origin, or the point (0, 0).

To find y-intercept, set x = 0:
2x - y = -2
2 (0) - y = -2
-y = -2
y = 2

To find x-intercept, set y = 0:
2x - 0 = -2
2x = -2
x = -1

Parallel lines have the same slope (y/x), in this case, -2.

Equation of (L1) is : y = 2x + 2
We need to find the equation of a line (L2) parallel to (L1), and containing O(0,0).
since L1 // L2, they then have the same slope. So,
(L2) : y = 2x + b

Then all we need to do is plug in the slope and the x and y from this particular point, and then solve for b.

0 = 2(0) + b ==> b = 0

So, the equation of line (L2) is y = 2x

let 2x-y=-2 be eq1
eq1 can also be written as y=2+2x
if eq of new line is parallel to eq1, then slopes are equal.
therefore, slopes=2 (coefficient of x-term)
if line contains(0,0)
y-int=0
sub y-int value and slope value into y=mx+b
so y=2x+0
y=2x
hope that helps
