The blower motor relay contacts could be burned or pitted. Try replacing the relay, if this doesn't solve the problem, then it could be the blower motor itself. Both are pretty easy to do yourself.

There are several things that could be causing this problem. There are pressure switches on the system that will shut it down to protect the compressor. There is a high pressure switch if the pressure is too high, usually caused by a plugged orifice valve, a low pressure switch when there is not enough refrigerant in the system, and on some smaller engines there are cutout switches used to take the load off the motor under certain driving conditions. Also the compressor clutch may be going bad, or simply the wiring to the compressor is loose. You would need a set of AC gages and a good working knowledge of your cars AC system to diagnose the problem. You may just have to take it to a qualified mechanic to get it fixed. Good luck.

it's possible the that the drain tube for the evaporator core is plugged. when you run the ac it cools the air and creates water condensation. it's literally taking the humidity out of the air. this water has to drain out. usually run's out under the car. if the drain tube is plugged up the water will stay in the core (located in the dash) and it will freeze into ice. then it can't cool the air properly. this is only one possibility. you can test it by turning your air on and waiting a minute or to and look under the car you should be able to see the water dripping out. good luck

One suggestion. Do not run your A/C on Max A/C that is for (dessert use only). You maybe freezing up your evaporator and then thawing it out is why you are getting your A/C to work occasionally. Just a suggestion. Try this and see if this might solve the problem.

it sounds like it may be getting low on freon, either that or the safety switch is going out on it,most people call it the pressure switch ,but its what will help keep the compressor kicked in ,sometimes when they start to go bad they will kick on and off like this, have it checked,a good shop can tell you if this is whats causing that to happen to it,good luck with it.
