I am wanting to enter a sociology Ph.d program. I recently took the gre and my math score is only a 530, although I have a 710 verbal. Should I retake it and try to raise my math score? Re-taking the test seems like a nightmare but I am not sure if a low math score will hurt my chances of entering a decent sociology program.

Since a lot of sociology programs will require a fair amount of statistics, you stand a better chance if you do better on the GREs. If you retake and it doesn't improve, you can try anyway, but it will hurt your chances.

if ur going into sociology it should be fine, the focus might be more on verbal so i dont see what the problem is. aslo you can ask people in the program, what percentile they are looking for.. n usually they'll tell you
