I am on a very fixed budget, so always look to fix with pennies spent. I have an 18 year old pet door and the plastic flap is torn off. I figure I can get a thick piece of plastic and use like duct tape to tape it on, of course the frame iS fine BUT I ALSO HAVE TO CONSIDER HEAT LOSS AS I WANT IT FOR THE PETS 24X7.

i don't know if it broke off at the seam or not, it would be the likely place for it to fail though, but i would recommend a product called Goop. if it has failed at the seam of the flap, i would take it out of the frame and lay it on a sheet of wax paper, then apply goop to the part from the frame, then place the flap into the goop. after it cures for a day, i would then consider maybe applying a coat over the repair on each side of the flap. Goop is like silicone and is a very strong glue. you can buy it in your local hardware store for around $5.00 a tube. i have used it to glue bumper trim back on a metal bumper and it is still on 12 years later, even though the tabs had broken off of the trim, so the goop is the only thing holding it on! and i said to make this repair on wax paper because it will form a permanent bond when it cures, so you don't want the flap glued to the workbench or kitchen table!! the only thing that may happen after you put the pet door back together is it may be a bit stiffer at the joint where it used to flex easily. that is the weakest point of those pet doors, if the goop doesn't fix it you will find plenty of other uses for the goop around the house. they market it for many purposes, but the stuff is all the same inside the tube, shoe goop, auto goop, plumbers goop, and carpenters goop, etc. it is the duct tape of glues, if you can't fix it with duct tape, goop will fix it! good luck, hope this fixes it for you.
