What does this mean?

my Dad said children grow up to be adults so they should be given the respect a person gives to an adult..
I don't understand?

I think a person should be just as courteous and considerate to a child, but not because they'll grow up to be adults, but because they're people, too. But maybe he means children will learn to treat others with respect, if they're treated with respect when they're young.

ummm i guess that u should respect adults, cuz 1 day ull b an adult, and ud want a kid to respect u right? i really have no idea....
