Yes plays dvd's fine, allthough the HD DVD players are region encoded so not imported dvds will not work, not yet anyway, but also note if you didnt know already that HDDVD movies them selves are not region coded so you can buy any HDDVD from any country and will play unlike the BLURAY who have a pansy name who would have thought of bluray just from a stupid blue laser lol, HD DVD speaks for it self you want high definition the you buy HDDVD uhm hello....

ps. bluray lost 2 companies, paramount and dreamwroks, which will release transformers and shrek the 3rd in the next few weeks on HD DVD, i already pre-ordered mine, go check out amazon.com....

looks like bye bye to bluray, teehee thats funny

---------------------------------

Last note, since HD DVD players are region coded to standard dvd's you can do what i did i purchased a stand alone dvd player thats uses 1080p hdmi upscaling that is multi-region so i can play anything i want...... and it was only $150 dollars a pioneer model which is model pioneer DV-600AV is what i got....

good luck

Regular DVDs will play on Blu-Ray and HD DVD players, but not visa-versa unfortunately. Happy home theatering!
