I agree with Yak Rider completely. Neo-cons have hijacked the Republican party and this country has forgotten what conservative means. The Republicans were big proponents of a balanced budget, they attacked Clinton for Kosovo and for bypassing the Congress to initiate an act of war, they used to be non-interventionist, they used to be against big government.

Now they are about the Patriot Act and big government, doubling the size of the Department of Education, and spending billions on the Department of Homeland Security which will not do anything to make us more secure. Newt Gingrich announced he's not running for two reasons, one because his name has been dragged through the mud, and two because Republicans don't want a real conservative anymore they want an empire building big government corporate whore with no respect for the constitution.

If you just want the encyclopedia definition, go to a library or even Wikipedia.

Check their lives what these people do at home, in the neighborhood, at work, and in general. Its all a cover up. Giving nebulous titles for hiding nebulous motives.
Ask yourself this question:"Should these people watch porno materials and still be conservative?"

It used to have real meaning. During the last 10 or 12 years it lost all meaning. It's now like liberalism...a concept that was hijacked by opportunists.

Bob Dole?, Bush Sr.?, Bush Jr.?, Dennis Hastert?, Bill Frist? ... LOL please, stop, you're killing me. These are the guys who led conservatism off the cliff. They, and others like them, saw a parade passing by, cut to the front of the line and said, "Follow me, I'm your leader."

A pox on all of them.

The last conservatives were Reagan, Goldwater and Milton Friedman. Big business, corporate Republicans had no use for these guys whatsoever.

Well if you go by American mainstream political standards, it means you are for lower taxes, less social spending, more military spending/aggressiveness, religious values in public life, to name a few.

It means you tell anyone that has an idea for change to shut their pie hole, and fabricate a lie for an arguement to win the argument for the sake of shutting out new ideas. HA!
And it sucks cuz this world sucks because of it, and mundane and taxes and all that bad crap from conservatives. And with what the guy said below me here, they all sound like solutions to the problem, and heck they are, however there is a cost. They will regulate that solution to exploit ever penny, from every pocket, make it illegal to j-walk (which already happens) and to tradeo our freedoms for these 'so called' soultions they bring us.

It means that your on the "right" side of the political spectrum. Generally, speaking I believe conservatives are much more affulent and is composed of like 75% white males. They tend to have a history of being more "traditional" in terms of beliefs, they also have a reputation for wanting to disenfranchise minorities(aka women,islams,black,asians,gays,etc...). Also, recently they love to bash "liberals" (alot of times just cuz we're cool like that... joking). Nah, but seriously they are really traditionalistic like they are so predictable and can easily be determined what they will want to pass in Congress and what they will disagree with. They prefer the homogenous life-style that they have been living over the years, than to the radical new changes that go on today in society (like with the youth's rapid dissidence from long-established "norms"). So, if they had had their way we'd probrably have a 1950s "Leave it to Beaver" type lifestyle. Also, alot of times Conserv's are attached to religion (particularly Christianity) so alot of their beliefs interfere with their values, and thus interfere with laws (such a hot-issue as gay matrimony and stem cell research) ....um what else......... Um...... they love Faux--uh excuse me ---Fox News. A shining example of a conservative spin machines of aboslutely no ethics and of no value to anyone. Also, they rather we lose are guaranteed rights and live under martial law than to challenge the imposations by the government. (Aka Patriot Act, Wiretaps,Racial Profiles, Suspension of Habeus Corpus)

All the thumbs down..tell me I hit it on the money..heh heh heh.
