My friend is pregnant, and she is a frequent pot smoker. Her doctor told her it was better for the baby if she DIDN'T try to quit, because the withdrawal puts more trauma on your body, and on the baby.
I don't really understand what you mean about being 'fine for the tests'? There are kits you can get that you drink that mask the THC, they sell it on the internet, and I know of people who are chronic smokers who use them to cheat drug tests at work all the time. If worst comes to worse, get one of those!
All I know is, I know many mothers (including my own mother) who have smoked pot throughout their pregnancy, and all their children turned out fine (Me included)

I'm sorry, the question is a little confusing. Can it affect your child? It could. Will it? I don't know. By test what do you mean? Do you mean the APGAR test or drug test? If you can please clarify. I will tell you you are taking a major chance smoking pot during pregnancy. If smoking comes before your child there is a problem there. It doubles your chances of social services taking your child and many other things. If it is for a drug test, you need to be honest with your doctors. If something does happen the doctors need to know. Also, what happens if something happens. I don't want to scare you, but you wouldn't be able to have a clear conscience. It's not sarcastic, it's the honest truth.

Pot stays in your system for a long time - If you want it not to show up STOP smoking now. I know you probably don't want to hear this but your baby very possibly can have some very very serious problems due to your drug use. That is your biggest problem right now, not whether it will show up on a test. In the grand scheme of things what do you care about more - your baby or a little drug test?
Addition: I'm not judging anyone, I am just wondering why someone would put pot in front of a baby (and yes it can hurt your child and I'm not sorry for writing that - maybe you need to hear that). I understand addiction I have been face to face with it - but at least go to your Dr and tell them you need help!! I don't care if you do pot or heroin or any other drug under the sun for that matter your whole life - at least go seek treatment while your pregnant. Hurt yourself all you want - but don't hurt your child. If you are not willing to do that than your too immature to have a child. Children are the most precious things in this world - just get some help before you lose your child. I want to make it clear I am not judging you - just weigh out whats more important: Your child or your pot habit? Just wanted to make myself more clear. Get some help - and to all those people out there telling her, her baby will be fine - you should all be ashamed of yourselves. Ignorance lecturing ignorance - that is really refreshing.

The simple answer is that yes everything you eat and drink has an affect on your baby. The Drs can test for drugs in the babies system and Pot can have an affect on a baby that lasts for a long period of time. It isn't the worse drug you can use during pregnancy but still a drug that shouldn't be taken.

I love how everyone who knows NOTHING about Marijuana is telling you your a bad mother. One comment said it causes all these different problems... NOT TRUE! FYI: They have NO STUDIES on the affects during pregnancy!
Marijuana is used as a medicine. People are so negative towards it because the government wanted to stop people in the seventies from being hippies/in cults. THAT is the reason it became illegal and looked down upon. Cigarettes are more harmful and damaging then Marijuana!!! Maybe all you "negative Nacys" should speak with numerous doctors to get your information correct.

Everything that you do affects your baby too. And it's been scientifically proven that most babies of women who smoked pot while pregnant score lower on intelligence tests. You really should have more consideration for the unborn life that you're carrying. If you stop right now, the tests will be fine. Just stop immediately and don't do it anymore.

I find it interesting that you are worried only about the drug test that YOU will take and not the baby. Right now, you are harming the baby by the drugs. That harm could be permanent damage of the nervous system, the heart, digestion, eyes. etc.
As for the tests, the newer tests for pot smokers can detect the drug as far out as 1-year. (The tests are made on the hair which holds the evidence for a longer time.) These tests are more expensive and not usually administered unless there is suspicion of drug use and the gross test comes back negative.

You need to give that crap up NOW. I am serious though and I am not judging, you already knew it was bad. I think you will be fine as far as the tests the hospitals give but you should drink lots of water and not do it again. And dont go taking anything to get it out of your system-that could be really dangerous. From what you say it wasn't much but it is still not good for baby.

I think that the testing depends on what state you live in. I have the medical marijuana card, so I told my dr. about that when I had my first prenatal appt. and she told me that she would prefer me to not smoke pot, since the carbon monoxide harms babies, just like in cigarette smoke, but she agreed with the medical use of it. Since I tested positive for marijuana, a social worker spoke with me and explained that the baby would be tested at birth, and if positive a letter from the state would be sent from me, but nothing would come of it. She told me they are looking for meth, and other drugs. I did stop using at the end of my pregnancy, and everything tested fine. My baby was perfectly healthy, 8 1/2 lbs, and is now almost 2 years old and doing great. I personally think that marijuana is fine in moderation as long as it's eaten not smoked, and only for medical reasons. I don't really think illegal use is ok.
I know people strongly disagree with me, but I don't care, people put much more harmful things into their body and don't even know it.
I would say that if you stop now, you will be fine, just don't listen to all the preachers, do what you think is best.

Well, don't smoke anymore, thats for sure... drink a lot of water. It will probably be fine once you have the baby, just don't do it again. that's not a risk you should take!! save the bud smokin for after baby is here!!
also, don't listen to these people who say you are hurting your baby for life. I don't advocate doing this while pregnant, but I also don't understand how people who have NEVER done an actually study on this can act like they know what it does to a baby. Studies are inconclusive! THAT'S ALL THAT IS KNOWN. One study showed no effect, the other showed that children could develop ADHD later in life. Unless you were the one who did this study, DON'T ACT LIKE AN EXPERT!!!! gah, this ticks me off!! especially when people can have a few "glasses of wine" during pregnancy and that is okay?!?!?!
I've heard of crack babies, i've heard of fetal alchohol syndrome. has ANYONE ever heard of Weed babies?!? or... Fetal Marijuana syndrome?!? no, i dont think so. There are alot more dangerous things, and i do not think that if you smoke a few times while you were pregnant it would have an ever lasting HORRIBLE effect on your child. especially near the end, when it is developed.

You should talk to your Dr right away. The side effects from the baby could be deathly or have long term side effect for the rest of the baby's life. I know two children who life was changed b/c of weed smoking! There mentally slow, tons of healthy problems, and so much more. They will never live a normal life. Breaks my heart.
BUT
Your Dr. may be able to clean your system out and give you medicine to help the baby clean out and catch back up. 2 weeks is a lot and this time of the pregnancy is most important for the lungs and brain and more...Your child could all ready be ill and forever change.
INFO
Marijuana crosses the placenta to your baby. Marijuana, like cigarette smoke, contains toxins that keep your baby from getting the proper supply of oxygen that he or she needs to grow.
Studies have shown that consumption of illegal drugs during pregnancy can result in low birth-weight, premature labor, placental abruption, fetal death and even maternal death.
