most brand PCs these days don't come with Windows disks, but provide a way to burn off a set of recovery disks. If this is the case with this pc, and they haven't been burned yet you still can. look in the Start > All Programs menu for the manufacturer's folder, and in there look for the manual. (If it's not there go to their website under "Support" for the manual -- "drivers & downloads" usually.) the manual will explain how to burn them off.

note: you also might have a recovery partition. that's an alternative to using the disks. you would press a key or combination of keys at boot to start the process. look in the manual for that too (something like: "Recovery Options").

Really depends on the laptop manufacturer. HP and Compaq, for example, don't provide a restore CD. They set up a partition and put the restore CD information there.

So... some will assist you in giving you a restore CD and others will offer you the change to purchase one at a very high price. You have nothing to lose, give them a call.

Good luck,
Z

If you contact the manufacturer, you should be able to purchase a replacement set of restoration CDs. That is, assuming that it originally came with them. More and more systems nowadays are using a backup partition on the hard drive as the system restore point.

This is really dumb of you contacting the company because ull end up spending money on it. You can just borrow the windows cd from one of your friend.Say that the laptop was dell you can use a gateway one.You just need the same operating system. And you might have to download some drivers which you can do that off the company of the laptop.
