depends how many generations that has been going on. If you are looking at 4-5 generations of inbreeding, yes, you are going to get issues. If you only breed, say father to daughter, and then do no more inbreeding for a couple generations, you will probably not have any problems.
The reason the young are sickly, challenged, or deformed is due to recessive genes showing up that would normally not be shown. With a lot of imbreeding, you get a better chance of getting those recessive "bad" genes, or having damaged ones.
Recessiveness is like you having blue eyes, and everyone in your family, even your grandparents, aunts, and uncles, having brown or grey eyes. (blue is hidden under the other colors)
