This is tough to call. On one hand you don't want to withhold the basic necessities of life from those who need it so badly. The argument on the other side is, at the very least, two-fold. First there is the presumptive view that the western countries are propping up/supporting these regimes by sending the aid. While not diplomatically giving their approval, this could be seen as de facto support of the regimes. Second & maybe more importantly is the question of whether the aid truly gets to the people who need it or if it is being used by those in & around the gov't. That,.I believe, was part of the question/problem with both band-aid & USA for Africa back during the largest publicity of the African famines. There was talk & some proof that gov't authorities were not allowing what was shipped over there to reach those who needed it so what then is the use of trying to help.

Official aid is to allow greater influence on the receiving country and is an important part of any foreign policy. However, if the desired results are not happening and appear like they will not, then it becomes a waste of my money. The reason it is being done in the so called African countries is to insure the world status quo. Things such as communicable diseases are a threat to all countries and cannot be attacked without first creating infrastructure and a working local government so said aid is actually used.

Once the concept off the world actually being one world and humanity being a whole human race and that with sharing and caring there is truly room and food for all of us then we will be OK, but the way things are at the moment whatever aid can get given and get through to the people who need it then yes we should continue to help as best we can and without neglecting areas in this country which need a boost (ie NHS and Schools)

We should stop giving cash to those countries because that only supports the current regime but food and aid actually goes to the people who really need it. I do think, however, that should be done by a generous population of that rich country and not the government itself.

You could advocate what the Americans do. Offer aid and not actually give it.
What I would say where Africa is concerned that the way the West has exploited the continent over the centuries is disgraceful and no amount of aid that has ever been given could repay our indebtedness to Africa.

I think if you helped to the point where there is still not any long-term changes, let them loose.
Offer help to those who want to leave that country for a better life somewhere else in another country that is more stable, possibly bettering your country in the long run..
I think that is a better option then some of these bottomless pits these countries keep giving aid to.

Unfortunatly most Aid and Help is wasted by those Goverments that oppress thier people......but The Richer Nations should help.....but again only problem is most Aid doesnt reach the people...thus sanctions are applied to try and hurt the Goverments pockets............that is what All countries should do to those Nations that oppress thier people !!!!

stop it as these countries have for many years had aid but what has it really achieved? look at africa how many children per head its crazy they dont seem to want to help themselves I mean ff`s you dont need to educate people about having more babies than they can as a country or individually cope with. Give them reusable condoms is my opinion. All this breading is so that oneday there will be more blacks than whites I think thats their agenda......... most blacks are very cleaver and resourceful so like the rest or us they should deal with it and do whatever their society requires and,,,,,,,,,, us whites should get out the black mans fields and give their farms back we run too much of their land..........

no, it's because of the west that these poor countries are stuck with these corrupt country leaders. How can the west stand by and let Mugabe breach human right laws, while Saddam Hussein was caught and hung quicker than you could say "double standards"?
