trust me when i say this... i been taking the pill for a few years and it has always worked for me, especially since me and my boyfriend never ever used a condom the whole two yrs we were together. Trust me the pill works. As long as you take them everyday at the same time then you shouldnt get pregnant. You may get away with missing only one pill a month (i always missed at least one lol) but if u miss more than one than u better make sure, that is if u dont get your period the next month. The whole 2 yrs i took the pill and was having unprotected sex with my man and never got pregnant, but as SOON as i stop taking the pill i had unprotected sex again (mistake) and now i am 39 wks pregnant (LOL). zBut yes, the pill is very effective as long as you are resposible. The girl who answered ur question and thinks she's pregnant must not have been taking them correctly. They are 99% effective, and the 1% is if not taken correctly. No but u better what out for std's still. Dont let him pressure you if u want to use condoms and dont let him be the reason u take the pill. do it for yourself and you own health and well-being.
Oh yeah... one more thing. The pill takes a whole cycle before it become effective, so that means you start the pill the 1st sunday when ur period starts and you have to wait utill your next period the next month before it will be completely safe.

Honey, if you don't know how to use the pill or if it works maybe you shouldn't be having sex. Birth control pills are 99% effective if you use them according to your doctor or pharmacist's instructions. However, your "man" should also continue using condoms as the "pill" will only protect you from getting pregnant and not from STD's or HIV as a condom will. Planned Parenthood can offer you counseling and decide what type of birth control is best for you. Good luck and be careful.

the best thing you can do right now is to ask your doctor. but i know if you use the birth control correctly is pretty accurate. that means you have to take one pill everyday arond the same time, and i mean everyday for the best accuracy. the hormones in the pill prevent you from ovulating, so even if sperm got into you then there isnt an egg to be fertilized, also it things your uterus so if an egg is released and fertilized which is VERY unlikey then it wont be able to implant. it a smart thing to do by considering a good form of birth control. the pill doesnt protect from and STDs thou, so condoms should still be worn, unless your boyfriend was a virgin or he has been tested and you know 100% for sure.

First, there is no 100% full proof birth control other than just NOT having sex. AND... a pill is not going to protect you from sexually transmitted diseases. PROTECT YOURSELF because you are the only one who can. Don't do anything you don't feel comfortable with.
When you start to take the pill it takes a while before they become fully effective........ AND if you dont take them at the same time everyday... they will not be as effective as they are supposed to be.
Here is the official website for ORTHO TRI-CYCLEN LO:
http://www.thepill.com/
Here is a website that gives you other forms of birth control that you and your boyfriend can research together. Speak to your doctor about which one is right for you, (Get in the habit of you two going to your gynecologist together and ask tonssssssss of questions. They love when you do this so they can build a doctor/patient relationship with both of you.)

The pill is probably more effective than the condom. But if you use them together it is really safe. Not 100% but pretty close. Also I wouldn't go on the pill so someone else could shrug responsibility. He needs to know that although you are on the pill that doesn't give him off the hook of being safe to. Using a condom also safe guards you from STDs and lessens the risk of Urinary Track infections.

The misinformation around here is astounding. Most forms of the BC pill are 99% (NOT 99.9%) effective with perfect use, which means one out of every 100 (NOT 1000) women will become pregnant EACH YEAR while using the pill PERFECTLY. That means no forgetting to take it, no taking it late, no doubling up on doses because you forgot etc, or else your risk of pregnancy goes up. It works by preventing ovulation, usually, but sometimes that will fail and the backup is that it prevents implantation if you do release an egg and it is fertilized.

About 1 out of a thousand women get pregnant while taking oral contraceptives correctly. They prevent you from ovulating. The correctly is the important part. You take active pills for 3 weeks-21 days, then you take inactive pils for 7 days - they come in one pack together. During the time you are taking the inactive pills you will have a period.
You need to take them EVERY DAY at the same time, if you miss a pill you need to take it as soon as you remember and use a back up method.

Well, your on BC because you don't want to get pg right? He should still wear a condom just for backup. Plus, the pill will not keep you from getting AIDS! If he don't use a condom, I WOULD NOT have sex PERIOD!!!
You should love your life, and respect yourself enough to not have sex with anyone unless he wears a condom. The pill is not 100% - I got pregnant on the pill!
Good luck!
