"Although attempts to create sync-sound motion pictures go back to the Edison lab in 1896, the technology became well-developed only in the early 1920s. The next few years saw a race to design, implement, and market several rival sound-on-disc and sound-on-film sound formats. Although The Jazz Singer's release in 1927 marked the first commercially successful sound film, silent films formed the majority of features produced in both 1927 and 1928. Thus the modern sound film era may be regarded as coming to dominance beginning in 1929."

They still made a few more after that but they pretty much came to an end in 1929.

Essentially they are not dead. Mr Hulot's Holiday in the 1950's was very nearly a silent film with no dialogue. Mel Brooks made Silent Movie a couple of decades ago. I wonder how much dialogue there is in Mr. Bean's Holiday, a remake of Hulot's released this summer.

The first feature-length talking movie was supposed to be "The Jazz Singer" with Al Jolson in 1927. I guess the silent ones just fizzled out after that.

Yeah, that's a good point Doc - anyone can still make a silent movie, if that's the effect they want to achieve.

As a private citizen the police can ask you to quit filming yet once you're a media practitioner or belong to a member media outfit you won't be able to be urged to quit because of the fact it is your activity to take photograph or movies as in lots of circumstances as you desire. yet here you at the instant are not linked to any media outfit or corporation so the police can order you to quit filming the incident. yet once you're taken away to the precinct the police do now not be attentive to what expenses to place on you. so they don't have the different option yet to permit you flow. they only extra you to the police station to scare you to now not do it returned.
