If you are replacing the entire shaft with the same type and out of essentially the same truck yes it will be fine, to replace the carrier bearing only separate the two halfs and then press the bearing off in a press supported with a bearing separator, you will need to press the new on on as well.

They all fail eventually, it's the weak link in the driveline. Bad U joints will wipe it out quickly so I suggest you replace them at the same time. Make sure you mark the shaft where the splines line up or the shaft will destroy itself. This is an easy enough job to do with any common sense at all and the center bearing usually isn't very hard to drive off the shaft. Make sure the rear end yoke is tight while you are under there, they tend to loosen and cause the seal to leak.

Remove the drive shaft from the differential.
Remove the two bolts holding the carrier bearing to the frame cross member.
Let it hang down and slide the rear shaft off the front shaft.(might be kind of stuck but it WILL slide out.)

Now for the hard part....The bearing is going to be VERY difficult to remove from the front shaft. but it will come off.
Or is it on the rear shaft....I forget....
