Several. The World-Telegram-Sun and the Journal-American were but two of them. They are long gone because the growth of TV news doomed most afternoon and evening papers.

I believe the New York Post was an afternoon paper back then, and the New York Journal-American was too. I believe the Herald-Tribune was a morning paper.
