Magical Mystery Tour is the name of the album and double EP by the English rock band The Beatles, first released in late 1967 (see 1967 in music). The double EP was recorded at the end of an extremely creative 18-month period which also included Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

Magical Mystery Tour was a made for TV film by the Beatles, started in 1967. Much of the material was recorded at the same time as the material on Sgt. Pepper, also released that year.
Sgt. Pepper was a landmark rock album, one of the greatest albums of all time. A true work of art....
Magical Mystery Tour, the film, bombed, and critics still continue to bash it. Personally, I rather like it. It is the Beatles by themselves, with no clever director or producer, and shows their real sense of humor, not the made up one in their earlier films that were critically acclaimed.
The Beatles were slightly wacky creative guys, just like most of the real life musicians and composers I know. The sanest one of the bunch was Ringo.
John Lennon left his lovely blonde wife for a babbling Japanese performance artist who wasn't even pretty.
Paul McCartney was smoking dope and getting stoned all the time even though he was a family man with a house full of children.
George Harrison was enthralled with Hindu culture and wrote a hit song about Hindu gods.

Are you thinking maybe of The Rutles,
a Beatles parody band of the 60's.

Yeah, it was Magical Mystery Tour, by the Beatles, released in 1967. It's got 'Strawberry Fields', 'Hello Goodbye', 'Blue Jay Way' and 'I Am the Walrus', among others.
