There would be little difference. Another tragedy would have occurred that would have instituted the safety changes. While the Titanic is very prevalent in American high school history (and possibly the UK), it did not have a significant impact at the time. Some companies went bankrupt, many people lost loved ones, but life went on. The sinking of the Titanic did not start a war, or end maritime commerce. It was a tragedy that created changes in the industry and that people learned from but it did not have overreaching impact on global society.

There would not have been a market crash causing a world wide depression, WWII would not have been fought, but a collision between the Soviets and the USA would've wiped out humanity in 1954.... Have you ever heard of the butterfly effect? One small diversion of the space time continuum will have monumental consequences.
