If you run out of fuel you run out of engine time. Gasoline engines are open systems that constantly need to be feed fuel, and they are constantly expelling gases which is what statement A is telling you.

The rest of the questions are pretty much common sense.
B. is a little to vague to make any judgments on but E. just cries out; hey I suck in fuel and I pollute, I am a huge problem in the world today because of this.

C is not a bad definition of thermodynamics and with D any system the uses energy and matter is by definition a thermodynamic system.

E - because it has to draw air from the outside, into the carburetor, or injectors, and it exhausts back into the air, so it would be more like A
