(SSI = Social Security Income). I am worried because I know the amount they pay me is based on how high my rent is. So if suddenly I have no home, and no rent, it seems they might decrease the amount they give me. I'm in New Mexico. Thanks in advance for your reply.

I was thinking about moving into a travel trailer on a friend's rural land, where there's no address. Technically speaking, I'd be homeless.

i looked on the net for you. SSI is not based on how much your rent is, it's based on how long you have worked. and it's based on if you are truely disabled consistantly for more then a 12 month year or until your death.

so you have to base your SSI allotment on these factors. so with this i dont believe that your SSI will be lowered because you are homeless.

ps. about the address to recieve your check's. you will need an address. did you know you have 3 options? you can set up a P.O box or you can use your friend's address the women land you will be living off of could be great or i'm not sure about mexico but they now have direct deposit to send your fun's in a bank account. you can access your fund's using a debit card.

hope this was helpful

No, hun, they do not base it on your rent. You get a set amount based on your disability and the city where you live. That means they take the cost of living in new mexico into consideration. If you lived somewhere like Alaska where everything costs way more, then you would get more money. My son is disabled and gets SSI and I have moved to cheaper and more expensive places and his check is the same. But why are you going to be homeless? You need to go to the welfare dept and get help. People with a disability do not need to be homeless!!!

If the lack of address is the problem, get a P.O. Box. Under federal law they are a "legal address for all business public or private."
A residence address CAN be given by LOCATION, such as 5 mi N on Hwy88, west side. I used a similar address for MANY years on my Driver's License when my 'physical' address was a gold mining claim I owned.

SSDI varies somewhat from state to state, but SSDI does NOT. The SSI is a supplement because your SSDI is not high enough.
(I collected SSDI, but no SSI because I also have VA disability; my 'other half' collects both AND CO old age pension; his daughter gets both.)

I live in CO.; and, according to the post office, do NOT have a zip code as our residence is between 3 and in none.

Shows you are nothing but a political hack because you would know that your income has nothing to do with how much rent you pay!
My mother was on SSDI until she bacame old enough to collect regular SS!

Live in your car and then the amount will be based on your car payments.
