you can . That will turn off the transformer that is using a very small amount of electricity if you are that concerned about it.

The thermostat decides if the furnace needs to run or not.
Turning the electricity off at the furnace will do nothing to conserve energy.

If you have central air conditioning the furnace will need to be on for the air conditioning to operate. When the furnace is not running it does not use any electricity.

You wouldn't need to. Switch from heat to AC and it's functioning for the summer temps settings.

IF YOU DO IT MAY DISABLE SOMETHING --LIKE AC IF YOU HAVE IT--OR IT MAY DO NOTHING. THERE IS NO REAL ADVANTAGE TO TURNING IT OFF SO I WOULD LEAVE IT ALONE. THERE IS NO WAY OF KNOWING WHAT ALL IT CONTROLS WITHOUT KNOWING MORE ABOUT YOUR SYSTEM. IF I TURNED MY FURNACE SWITCH OFF I WOULD SHUT OFF MY UV GERMICIDAL AIR CLEANER AND I WOULD NOT KNOW IT UNLESS CHECKED IT UP IN MY ATTIC.
