When were we allowed to vote when we were 16? You really should stop skipping history class. The youngest the voting age has ever been is 18. The only thing you were allowed to vote for at 16 was your class president.

Americans were NEVER able to vote at 16. It used to be 21.

18 is plenty young. 16 is way too young. I think it should be back at 21. At that point you have started living a life on your own instead of having mommy & daddy taking care of you. At 21 you having been paying bills and really being an adult. At 18 you are still a child.

I don't know what country you are from but the youngest voting age in the history of the US is 18. It is an accepted opinion that 18 is the age of adulthood in this country. I would imagine it has to do with having graduated from high school. Moving from adolescence into an age of being responsible.

You were never allowed to vote at 16. So, your question only confirms the beliefs of your elders that you are too immature and too inexperienced to understand the complex issues that our nation is confronted with.
Also, 18 is too young; for war or for voting.

The Twenty-sixth Amendment made 18-year-olds eligible to vote in all federal, state, and local elections. Until 1971, the minimum age had been 21 in most states. The basic argument was that if individuals were old enough to be drafted and fight for their country, they were old enough to vote.

because 16yr old's don't understand what is going on in the world and they are too immature in Australia 18yrs is the legal voting age please tell me how many 16yr olds actually sit down and watch the news and understand what each party is fighting for. 16yr olds are more likely to vote for the person who looks the best Rather than the real ethics the person is about

a 16 year old's biggest problem is what to wear to school. 90% of 16 year olds wouldn't even vote if they could.

In which country?
Wherever you are, you are not the centre of the universe, in future please identify your country. There are elections and voting rights which differ from country to country in the democratic west.

If you are adult enough to understand what i have written you may be smart enough to vote responsibly.
