My girlfriend dropped our infant son the other day. She said he was ok so we didn't take him to the doctor. Over the last couple of days I've been noticing that his eyes don't seem to focus or move together. My girlfriend says this is normal in infants and that I just never noticed it before. I'm pretty sure that his eyes worked in unison before the drop. Should I take him to a doctor or is this really normal?

If it were ME, i would bypass the doc and take the baby to the ER.
your girlfriend isn't being a concerned parent, babies as young as one month will focus on objects!
If you are anything of a good parent, and it sounds like you are because you asked, take that baby and get him looked at!!!
even if it has to be behind your girlfriends back.

Your baby should be taken to the doctor...even if his eyes were like that before or not. If a baby has a fall, they need to be checked out by a doctor just to make sure everything is okay. Don't take any chances on things like this.

You didn't say how old he was, so I'm not sure if he should be focusing or not. I would say to be safe, take him to the doctor. It is better to be safe than sorry.

Why did she drop him? As a first time mom myself, I would have completely freaked out if I had done that and would have probably rushed him to the doctor. I think you should keep an eye on her for postpartum depression. It isn't her fault, but it could make her resent the baby or become neutral in her feelings about the baby.

Babies heads are very heavy, about 25% of their total body weight. Also the muscles in their necks are not fully developed, and their brains do not fit their heads, making it easier for the brain to bang around in the skull. If the baby cannot focus his eyes this could be a concussion or a brain bleed. Take him to the E.R. now! Better to be safe than sorry.
Good Luck and God Bless!

My niece's eyes were that way but if your son was dropped then I would take him to get checked. There may be nothing wrong with his eyes but there could be something else wrong that was overlooked by her, or something internal that she can't see.
If you think that his eyes worked together before the accident then there could definately be something wrong with his eyes now. Some babies eyes are like this at first and some are not.

Sorry I know this can be scary. How old is the baby? How high up was the baby when he was dropped. I would go to the DR just to ease my mind.

was the baby dropped on a hard surface or a soft surface like the bed and how did baby land? those are important questions. you cant be too careful with babies, i wouldn't feel right unless i advised you to take your baby to doctor immediately though.
