I would assume that it's only natural for the baby to want to be around it's mother. But once you introduce it to society, the child, once used to it, will probably rather stay at daycare then to be picked up.

This will depend on the child. :) Some "babies" of that age (Mine is 22 months... I can't really call her a baby anymore, she's quite the little lady!) need mom close by, or are too shy and unsure to just plunge in.

Others though, like mine, jump in without so much as a "bye mama" behind them, and cry when they leave. :) My daughter craves the stimulation that other children provide, although they're still much too young to really "interact" with each other in any meaningful fashion. They do seem to love being around, and I know that mine is fascinated with other "babies".

In the end, your baby wants YOU, but also strongly desires the company of other babies. But trust me, at the end of the day? It's not other babies she'll want to snuggle up with before bedtime!

Around mom. Depending on the age of the baby- they wouldn't even notice other babies until they are past the newborn phase. Still after, they would prefer mommy.

I think all babies feel safe with the mother, so they should feel the security of having the mother around. But of course they should socialize with other babies just a little.

Babies would rather yell crap and stick random things in their mouths, everything else might as well not exist. Although mothers think they are always wanted by their babies the fact is you could replace them with a warm soft blanket and the babies would not know the difference, babies are hella dumb and easily tricked and know one not even babies wants to be around a bunch of other babies.
The warm soft blanket thing was actually studied and this is true so all you moms that think your babies are gaga over you get over it.

My "babies" are 16 months, 3, almost 5, 7, and 8. They all still prefer their mom. :-) That's one reason we homeschool.
