When I was 38 years old and had been on birth control pills successfully for 11 years, my husband and I were very surprised to learn that I had unexpectedly conceived. Our other kids were 18, 15, and 12 when our little surprise joined our family. I had normal periods all along except for 1 shorter and lighter just before I went to my doctor for my yearly physical. We were all surprised that I was pregnant, including my doctor, since I had not missed any pills nor had I been sick or on any type of medication that would have interfered with the Pill. We had no idea how far along I was so I went for an ultrasound. It still seems unbelievable that I was 17 weeks pregnant and had no idea. I had no pregnancy symptoms. The only thing unusual was that I had been having a pain in my stomach whenever I ate. I was losing weight since I wasn't eating much except soup and toast. I understand if you scoff at the thought, since I, too, used to be one of those scoffers who couldn't believe a woman could be pregnant and not know it until it happened to me! I had taken my birth control pills every day of that pregnancy only stopping on the day I found out. My doctor said there was no need to take them any longer so stop taking them, but not to worry that I had been taking them as numerous studies have shown no evidence that the hormones in birth control pills are in any way harmful to the baby. Here is a link from the Mayo Clinic that will be helpful as well: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/birth-control-pills/AN01662
Our little surprise is now 10 years old and is and always has been in great health.

Although it is obviously not reccommended, the dr's usually are not concerned with you taking b/c pills during the early stages of pregnancy.

I had a similiar story to the one listed previously except I was 26wks before I found out I was prego. Went to the dr because I thought I had appendicitis and found out I was 6mos pregnant.

I took b/c pills the whole time and had no signs or symptoms, I had not even gained any weight. I am very happy to say I now have a happy, healthy 3-yr-old boy

Absolutely everything I have read says that if you take your pills for a while when you are pregnant, your baby will still be fine. And really, enough people get pregnant on the pill and have healthy babies that I wouldn't worry too much about it. Good luck.
