I have a helmet that has its originial flat black on it. I want to paint it glossy. Is there any way to do that?

Mr vinylhamster is correct!
you can't paint it, the paint won't stick, it will scratch and scuff and fall off.
buy a new helmet with the exact color you want
for safety reasons you should replace ur helmet with a new one every 4 to 6 years

sure, just tape off the areas you don't want to paint, give it a light sanding with medium grit sandpaper, then fine paper, spray it in several light coats rather than trying to cover it with one or two heavy coats because they will run. If it runs, you will have to resand those areas and try again. It's easy.

Take it to a professional for painting.As certain paints could damage shell.

If it's a polycarbonate helmet, you should not paint it. It may weaken the outer coating significantly.
