It sounds like your songs aren't there anymore ... go to Start, then click Music. (all computers are different, you may have to play around a bit to find your Music folder)
Then you should have a folder that says iTunes. Click on it, and you should have more folders. One will say iTunes music, and there's your songs.

If they're not there, then ... not good. Hope you didn't have too many?

Well, good luck.

Got email...

OK 1st question... when your computer was erased and you resinstalled everything.. did you also reinstall your itunes songs? (ie, were they backed up to disk or cd and you transferred them back over)
Because if you did not transfer them from backup back to your harddrive then they are gone.

However, if you are saying the itunes songs ARE on the harddrive and your itunes is simply not doing what it did before... then it's a preference setting within itunes (which you also had to reinstall) so when you have your ipod in the cradle and itunes detects it... i believe if you click ON the icon within itunes of the ipod itself, then screen to the right will have some preferences including whether to import (sync with harddrive library). I'd give you the exact wording but this laptop doesn't have my itunes on it :)

I personally use the options to use my ipod as a harddrive, I do NOT want it to auto sync, and what I do is manually drag files onto the library first and name them how I want them to be on the ipod, then I copy and drag them onto the Ipod's Music folder on the left, and they manually copy to my ipod...

onto your AOL HELIX question (from your email)

If you emailed me asking about helix because you've seen me mention it... it's different than the AOL Helix you're talking about.

The Helix *I* use is a live cd which is a computer forensics tool.
AOL helix = I believe helix is the code name of some new aol beta? and aol is something i know very little about anymore, sorry. Here's a link to their page on it which may give you the answer to why you cannot get on...

Good luck! :)
