Unfortunately I have had hard stools for about a week to two weeks. I also think that I might have a tear because of this. This is concerning to me and I really don’t want to take something over the counter. (Just because I have no idea when I will need to use the restroom because the medicine has kicked in.) Also are there foods I should be avoiding? i.e.; sugar, processed foods, ECT. Thank you for the help.

The best thing I can suggest is that you increase your intake of fruit and veggies. The government here in the UK is promoting the idea of eating at least 5 portions of fruit or veg a day - this will soften your stool and provide enough fibre to ensure you remain regular.

One portion of fruit would be something approaching a medium to large apple in size. This promotes transit, and errr... exercises the colon - so be aware of that.

If you are eating small fruits like dates, prunes or berries - keep in mind the portion size I mentioned earlier and remember the 5 a day refers to 5 different fruits so eating a whole barrow-load of apples still counts as only one portion :D

Stool Softener Foods

If you have a fissure it is important to handle it quickly so it doesn't become chronic. You can take a stool softener that is not a laxative like Colace (given sometimes after childbirth) 50 or 100 mg./day, or you can take magnesium citrate (a natural supplement from a health food store) or fruit. Fiber supplements and cereal work for some people, but not for others and can actually make some people constipated. Make sure you drink enough water if you take fiber.
For the tear, a doctor told me that MSM or vitamin E can help with healing.
Usually a fissure will heal by itself, but if it becomes chronic, then there are medical creams to help it heal like a low dose nifedipene that can be prescribed by a doctor.
Try not to re injure the area so it can heal by itself.
Meat and cheese and eggs, too, can be constipating. You do need some meat in your diet, though, but you can eat less or avoid it for a while and eat more fruits and veges and drink enough water. You can also still eat meat and then take a stool softener if needed or just increase your fruits and veges.

Hard stools are often the result of too little water intake. You really need 8 glasses a day. It is amazing how often we neglect to drink water. We get very busy and forget how basic our need for water is. I have gone days where I think I only drank a glass or two and I paid for it...constipation. Pay attention to your water intake. To relieve your more immediate problem, there is a product called Smooth Move tea. It tastes okay if you add honey and takes about 12 hours to work so be careful on your timing. You can search this on the internet or you will usually find the prodeuct in a health food store. But trust me...water is usually the key. Metamusil also will help but personally, I can't get the stuff down.

How To Soften Stool

2016-10-05 03:28:21 · answer #5 · answered by ? 4 · 0 0

A product called Malt Soupex is often used here in the US w/ especially an elderly population. All it is is barley malt warmed up and given by the teaspoonful. You can get an 8oz. container of barley malt at the healthfood store or coop for somewhere between $5-10. Dried fruit works wonders for me, too. It's quite nice (and works really well) if you soak it, cook it w/ lemon and cardamom (or other warming spices), and eat it warm. BM's are profoundly guaranteed!

BTW to the person who said eggs work: they do, and really well, but realize that if eggs give you very loose stools or diarrhea, this is an excellent symptom that you are allergic to them...

Stay away from beef and cheese. These tie my guts up in knots, and mess me up so hard that it feels as if I will need dynamite to go. This happens to people who've been vegetarian for a long time and then change their diet back to eating meat. You lose the ability and the enzymes to digest animal food after not eating it for a long while. It can mess your system up something AWFUL!

Anyway, enough talking about sh*t! Have a lovely day/night all of you!

PS That comment about eating several apples being only one serving is completely BS! Yes, variety is extremely good for you and important, but it means over the course of several days, not at each serving necessarily. An apple is an apple is an apple.

Hello You are right with the cycling of her legs trick, go gently but firmly for quite a few minutes. Also try pushing her legs up towards her head gently in a rocking motion. Clasp her feet together and rock rhythmically from side to side. Using grape seed or olive oil, massage gently in a clockwise motion around the abdomen, from left over and down the right side. Then, using two fingertips, rub in small circles in the same direction. Finally scoop gently down from under her rigs down across the stomach. You are following the natural path of her digestive system. Gently allow your hands to rest on her abdomen for a minute or so and let the warmth from your hands flow into her stomach area. This is my no-fail approach to stubborn constipation and it has worked 100% of the time for the babies I have used it on. Take her left foot and have a look at the bottom of it. (this is quite hard to describe so bear with me) Just above the heel, on the inside edge of the foot, try pressing very gently on this point. Rotate on this point with gentle pressure. Stop for a few seconds, then start again. Repeat for around 2-3 minutes. This area related to the rectum in reflexology and it always stimulates a response! Please try it and let me know how you get on... Finally I would try a drink of cooled, boiled water first. As her stools are hard anyway she may be a little dehydrated so this could help soften them. If you do go down the fresh orange juice route (I know I did before I learnt baby massage) then a teaspoon would be plenty of the best quality fresh squeezed orange juice with bits in. She will make a great face anyway! Do all or any of the above and I would expect a result within 24 hours (usually an hour or less with the 'magic button' as detailed above!) of course if there is no 'action' and you are worried, and she seems in distress or pain, please do seek medical advice, there are treatments they can give you to help. Best of luck Helen

Try and reduce your salt intake. It sounds as if your gut is acid which will make your blood acid too. Your internal body pH should be 7.4 - your body always works to bring the pH of your body to about 7.4 which is slightly alkaline. If you are constantly stressed, eat bad acid foods then your poor body will also be stressed trying to make itself alkaline. Since acidity makes for a poor immune system - this will leave your body wide open to illness and disease.

Try the cheap, simple and free alkalizing remedies at this site :

This is a good common sense site. And there are blogs and testamonials that make good reading.

I use the lemon + half glass water + baking soda remedy twice a day. I no longer have hard stools, my stools are now soft, my bowels more regular, no more pains and cramp and I sleep like a baby now.

Good luck

Don't ever take the sleeping pills route!!

1. They will damage your liver big time and you can get into serious health problems.

2. You will get hooked up on them and you won't be able to have a normal life any more if you don't take your pills everyday.

The sleeping pills industry is damaging our health by capitalizing on our ignorance, and by distracting people from effective and natural ways to deal with this problem. I had been taking prescription sleep medications [Ambien] for over 5 years. It stopped working and I simply took more. Still did not work. Nights were very difficult - medication put me to sleep but I would wake up after 2–3 hours with a strong sympathetic response (fast pulse, pounding heartbeat, wide awake alert). It was a very difficult cycle to break. I was really in bad shape due to lack of sleep.

After years of struggling I was able to cure my insomnia naturally and pretty fast. I followed the Sleep Tracks sleep optimization program, here is their official web -site if you want to take a look: http://www.insomniacure.net

Ohhh..and Good Luck!

Mixed nuts work for me.The oil in the nuts is a natural laxative.Coconut milk also works.Leafy green vegetables like spinach are full of fiber and will help push it out.Are you getting enough liquids, especially water and milk? The mucus formed when you drink dairy is a natural lubricant.Try some yogurt to aid your digestion,it's fortified with natural enzymes to break down food.
