I grew up during the 60's when both were at their peak and listened to both, but always preferred Johnny Cash. Today, I still listen to my Cash cd's while the Beatles' cds are somewhere in the back of my collection. JC by a mile. I'm 67.

I'd have to say Beatles but there was definitely mutual respect between them. And I also love Johnny Cash just not as much as the Beatles.

I'm 38 this Monday.

Johnny Cash! I just recently "got into" his music, as it was a little before my time, but I started loving him when I heard his cover of Nine Inch Nails' "Hurt." Tears ran down my face while I was listening to it, because I knew he had recently lost his wife, June Carter Cash. May they both rest in peace.

**Oh, and by the way, I'm 26 y/o.**

Cash by far. 35. Cash is timeless, Beatles are hokey by today's standards. Johnny Cash never let rock-star syndrome affect him the way it did the Beatles, who thought themselves something greater than just a group of entertainers.

**additional: after reviewing the previous answers, I'm seeing that the beatle fans are generally older, but the Cash fans vary. That, to me, speaks to Cash's TIMELESSNESS. I think it's very cool to see folks in the late teens picking Cash of the beatles.**
