Have a 1980 AMC Pacer with all original equipment, which could be why it won't run without repairs. I would love to convert it into a plug-in electric car with a steam-powered generator built-in so I could drive longer distances when needed, have AC and electric heat, power steering and brakes without worrying about recharging for hours. It could use vegetable oil or furnace oil or ethanol or any liquid or gaseous fuel and be cleaner than any internal combustion engine. Such a conversion should also get great mileage.
If unable to do that I'd at least like to restore it enough that I could show it off a little.

Yea OK. it's probably not the sort of answer you were looking for, but in my younger days I was a 'navvy driver' (machine operator), and operated many heavy construction machines, but I think one of my favourites was a Caterpillar D8 bulldozer, simply because of the power and flexibility. Yes you could move a mountain, but you could also skim off half an inch of 'Topsoil'.

A simple 1.4 LX Ford Escort manual, well cheap to run easy cheap spares easy to work on...
I have had loadsa cars like the XJS, Daimler, Merc 190e bmw 316 etc but ford escort althugh totally different is the winner for me.

Favourite classic car is Morris Minor, or modern(ish) car my 1996 Ford Escort 1.6 16v zetec, I`ve just put leather seats in for even more comfort.
