This is totally normal developmental behavior for an 8 month old. A baby should not be able to walk until 12 months. Sure some babies will pull them selves into standing around this time but your babies nervous system is still developing and walking will require more time. Many parents are competitive and act like their kids could walk earlier than 10 - 12 months but most are just exaggerating because that is human nature to brag about how great your kid is or at least it is American human nature. Give it time and if by 12 months your child is not walking you can ask your pediatrician about what they think. But you should know this is totally normal.

None of my 3 kids walked or stood up until after a year old, 8 months is way early to be standing or walking. Yes some do but they are not average. Give your baby time to be a baby. It will come, don't worry.

8 months is too young to be doing either - in fact if they walk or stand too early it can be bad for their leg development as they arent strong enough to support themselves.

My son didnt walk until 17 months! I have heard of babies walking at 9 months but I think this is rare.

Congratulations!

My 8 month old nephew JUST started crawling 2 days ago. But he can pull himself up onto the side of his crib and stand, but not unless he holds on to something. Do you exercise his legs? My nephew has a toy/seat that allows him to stand and exercise his legs and allows him to stand and let his feet touch the floor.

My niece walked at 10 months, my friend's daughter didn't walk until almost 14 months.

I think each child is different, but you might want to speak to your child's doctor if you're really concerned.

GOOD LUCK!

My daughter didn't start till 9mths don't worrie. But I helped my Sister with her Daughter by Putting balloons in her shirt and bottom so when she feel she had fun,she must had gotten hurt trying before i came up with this idea.so long story short it would have made a cute video with all the giggling but she learned that night.and had fun, just an idea but don't forget to get rid of all balloons after so she won't find a piece and well you know how dangerous balloons are for babies.....best of luck to you and believe me you want someone taking pics or recording it's going to be a blast........Mia....:)Your baby does stand on it own I hope if not a bit to early

8 months is very early for standing unassisted...and ridiculously early for walking. I know of one baby who could walk at 8 mos.

Average for walking is closer to 1 year...and that's an average, not a guarantee.

Ask your doctor about milestones, or check out the developmental stages at www.babycenter.com.

8 months and walking??? That happens in less than 1% of babies. standing isnt a big deal either, why rush it?? let them be little for as long as they can. My 2nd son didnt even crawl or roll over until 8.5 mos old and now hes totally fine

Because he or she isn't ready!

8 months is still VERY early to be walking, and is still very much within normal range to not be standing.

When that baby is ready, you won't be able to keep up. Don't rush. ;)

There might be another milestone your baby is more interested in, or they might be working on it in other ways. Just be patient!

Kids walk and stand in their own time. 8 months is young still give them another month or so before becoming so concerned.
