What do you mean by "privileged life"?
Anyway this not a sociological question but rather a moral one. Frankly I don't think anything, let them do the way they prefer, provided they can get a decent life and don't bother other people.

Having been the wife spending a "life" with a husband (all due to a big party and a peice of paper saying legally I have to spend the rest of my life with him) and now being the GF of 3 years, I think whichever way of life the woman wants is just as respectable either way. Married people dont necessarily stay faithfull to each other just because they are married. Being married means nothing anymore, so why spend the money when you can live together in the exact same fashion without accomodating social expectations of marriage.

Both are married, just one has all the legal rights to a 50/50 split of homes, cars, businesses. Also the married woman is due more respect, because any woman can shack up with a man.

The married woman has made a public promise. Whether or not she keeps it is anyone's guess, but for the girlfriend the lack of a public declaration makes us believe that she could leave at any time. No red tape to deal with (paperwork/court).

Personally, I think they are both equally respectable. In the modern era where divorce occurs in 50% of the population, I dont think being married makes you better because the institution isnt very powerful anymore. Whatever makes them happy is fine by me.

I believe that both are respectable. I have been in both situations and prefer living with someone without being married. Then, if it doesn't work out, there is no red tape (divorce/court/fees for court and divorce) and it is easier to leave (though not emotionally since both require you to be emotionally involved). I believe that what ever makes someone happy is fine. If it makes them unhappy, then they need to get out of the situation and change things.

Well I'll say both bc, girlfriend is a being loyal & not cheating. Marriage girl is loyal & also not cheating so therefore, I'll say both are equal.
