I’ve read The Shining, The Stand, Misery, and Insomnia and I really like them all. What are some other books like them? And they don’t necessarily have to be by Stephen King.

Stephen King = awesomeness. Here's a list of some of the books I have:

Stephen King:
- Skeleton Crew (a bunch of short stories)
- Misery
- Nightmares and Dreamscapes (more short stories)
- Needful Things (about greed and revenge, very shocking)
- Cujo (not one of my favs)
- Thinner (good story, but not a fav)
- Desperation (OMFG. Read it. Now. It's bloody and shocking, along with a fantastic story. Pure gold.)
- The Regulators (technically goes with Desperation)
- Pet Sematary (so dark and chilling and sad. truly one of his darkest and best works)
- The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon (oooh don't read this if you like to camp! A little girl gets lost in the woods, and something finds her ... )
- Everything's Eventual (more short stories)
- Salem's Lot (normally I hate vampire stories, but this one kept me riveted. I cried during it.)
- Dreamcatcher (Creepy, about aliens .... )
- Insomnia
- Gerald's Game (A husband/wife are playing bondage. The husband accidentally dies, leaving the woman chained to her bed - and no one knows she's there. Then, something comes along ... )
- Lisey's Story (not very horror-ish, but there are some OWWW moments)
- Cell (a more recent book, written like a zombie movie. Everyone who is talking on a cell phone gets zombified. The story is about a man who is trying to reach his son. Brilliant.)
- Bag of Bones (Oh, wonderful. A writer is staying at his beach house, and starts communicating with his dead wife, who is trying to save a little girl. I stayed up all night reading this, and cried near the end.)

Dean Koontz:
- The Bad Place
- Shattered
- Winter Moon (aliens)
- The Voice of the Night
- The Servants of Twilight
- Odd Thomas (about a psychic young man, has a ton of humor in it)
- Forever Odd (sequel)
- Icebound (Not horror, more like a Michael Crichton book)
- Lightning
- One Door Away From Heaven (about a young disabled girl who will be killed by her stepfather if the woman she met doesn't save her; also about a young boy and his dog who are on the run from ruthless killers. The girl and boy meet up during the story. It's also an alien story)
- Life Expectancy (about a family of killer clowns, kinda. Very good, also has a lot of humor)
- Mr. Murder
- Shadowfires
- Darkfall
- Dark Rivers of the Heart
- Strangers
- Cold Fire
- The Key to Midnight
- The Door to December (about a woman who finds her daughter, after she had been missing for seven years. Then she finds out her daughter had been tortured. Then, something starts ruthlessly killing those who had tortured her daughter, and they are forced to go on the run ... )
- Intensity (a man breaks into this house, where a woman is staying with her friend's family, and kills everyone but the woman, who hid. Then the woman finds out that the killer has a teenage girl locked in his basement, and follows him, vowing to rescue her)
- Strange Highways (short stories)
- From The Corner of His Eye
- False Memory

Michael Crichton:
- Rising Sun
- Jurassic Park
- Jurassic Park: The Lost World
- Congo (about a group in the rain forest being terrorized by killer gorillas, essentially. But still a great story.)
- Prey
- Timeline (a group goes back to the Middle Ages to rescue their professor)
- Sphere (about a supposedly alien space craft that is found - at the bottom of the ocean. One of my fav books, the movie is nothing compared to the book.)
- State of Fear

There's also James Patterson, Thomas Harris, Michael Palmer, Richard Preston, Anne Rice, Peter Straub, Christopher Pike, Diane Hoh, Lois Duncan, and Jeffrey Deaver.

Happy reading! Haha :-]

My favorite Stephen King book is The Green Mile. If you like King, you'll love Dean Koontz. His books are awesome! Try reading Intensity, Phantoms, The Bad Place, Tick Tock, or Velocity to start. They are all great and keep your heart pounding. My fav is Intensity.

Intensity by Dean Koontz is really good, but it's more suspense than supernatural. Have you read IT, by Stephen King? It's a bit longer than most of King's books but really scary. Everything's Eventual has good stories too (King). Hideaway and One Door Away from Heaven by Dean Koontz are also really good. I can't think of any more right now.

'Bag Of Bones' and 'Cell' are two of his best. The short novel collections 'Four Past Midnight' and 'Different Seasons' are excellent. And be sure to check out his 'Bachman books' - 'The Running Man' and 'The Long Walk' are also excellent.
