What could be done in Iraq in order for the troops to come home?

Realistic answers only please. Not Rhetoric answers. In fact, how about answers that don't have the words "liberals" "conservatives", "Democrats", "Republicans" and "Neo-Cons" in them.

A "Final" goal? I doubt such a beast exists. It's alive. It breathes. For the U.S. (and it's coalition), I'd have to say, the goal would be to secure the country's government and oil. The world economy runs on oil. Should Iran take charge (and they have every intention of doing just that), judging by their anti-western rhetoric, they would put a strangle hold on the oil leaving the region. As well as supporting an even bigger blood bath than what we are currently witnessing.
Build up and support an Iraqi government that can fend for itself and control its borders and oil export.
Sadly, with the influence of Saudi Arabia on one side and Iran on the other, anyone caught in the middle is fed into the meat grinder. We need to secure the borders and try and find agreement and equitable ground for a nation that is largely uneducated and very theocratic.

Judging from the size of the embassy and military bases that we are building the Bush administration and their lackeys never intended for our troops to come home at all when they started this idiotic adventure. It seems that the entire goal was to establish permanent bases in the region and deposing Saddam Hussein was the most convenient excuse.
