I'm 26 years old and healthy. My period has been regular for 10 years now. I have been under stress lately but not excessive amounts. My doctor did some blood work and said everything was fine and offered to put me on birth control which I don't want. I'm not pregnant. What could this be? I think I have probably gained quite a bit of weight in the past year- please help! Could this be why? I have been getting cramps and can tell when it's time to have my period, but no blood is coming out! Please help! Thank you so much!

Yes, weight can affect our periods. But weight gain can also be a symptom of a hormone imbalance. I know that you mentioned that the doctor did some bloodwork but I would recommend asking his opinion about hormone imbalances such as Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome to see if it might be factoring in to this.

Hello. I'm sure you're fine or your doctor would be more concerned. However, I feel that you weren't given enough information or options. There are other alternatives to the birth control pill that you could look into if you actually knew what was going on. So my feeling is that you may consider switching doctors to somebody who you can communicate with better.

Don't freak out, nothing's wrong with you. I would ask your doctor, though, why this might be. I can't really think about anything that would cause this to happen. Some girls get their first period, and then get their next several months later, then it regulates. But in your case, I wouldn't know. Talk to your doctor soon and find out why.

it may be a hormonal imbalance thats why the birth control was prescribed. stress also is a factor in missing periods so try and relax.
