If we punish the innocent, we are immoral. If we let the guilty go free, we are mistaken. Which do you think is the worse?

It is better to let the guilty go free. It is NEVER right to punish someone who did no harm! NEVER right or fair to take away someone's life because you want to take revenge.

What do you think the purpose of the death penalty is? To teach the person a lesson? Ha! Can't teach 'em if they're dead! Maybe it's to eliminate the people from the world who will cause harm to others. If that is the true purpose, then the reasoning is to keep the innocent people safe.

Thus, if we punish the innocents in order to be able to punish the guilty, WE ARE NOT doing what we set out to do. What man has the right to punish another free man?

That's like asking if its better to have AIDS or lung cancer.

Erm, punish the innocent - so long as its not me or mine.

Or let the guilty go free - so long as its me and mine.

I'll go for punish the innocent - and keep a low profile.

As Lord Denning said, it is better that one hundred guilty men go free than for one man to be wrongly convicted! Mind you he didn't say if it went over 100...
