I'm glad to know that you are not going to shoot him or poison him...in spite of the suggestion by one person to use a .22, that is highly illegal, and you could be arrested for animal cruelty.

The only really humane way to bring your pet's life to an end is to have a trained and licensed veterinarian do it. Have one come to your home and let the dog pass in familiar surroundings, with you at his side. It will be comforting to the dog.

Please accept my condolences on your imminent loss.

First of all - is he in pain? If so please take him to the vet. Most vets will allow you to hold your pet as he "goes to sleep" this can be a great comfort to owner and pet. If he is not in pain and is comfortable if you really want him at home just keep him warm offer food and water often but don't force it and just be with him. If you are ready to let go then take the vet option. As long as you are with him he won't care where he is. I am so sorry I know from experience how heartbreaking this is. I wish you the best and will say a prayer for a gentle trip into that goodnight.

God bless

The veterinarian would be the most humane person to help your dog end his suffering. I'm sorry you're going through this. You can actually be present in some animal hospitals so you can pet your dog and comfort him. It helped me when my cat started having seizures to be able to see him go in a way that wasn't painful. Seizures are so painful for cats and other animals. I just couldn't stand to see him suffer.

I'm sorry about your dog. I know what it's like to lose a pet. I still get tears sometimes when I remember my cat. His name was OJ. He was named a year before the murders. We called him OJ because his fur was exactly the color of orange juice. He was one of those pets who'll always be remembered. Such a sweet, loving and protective cat. I still miss him, but I know he isn't suffering anymore. That's what matters the most to me.

Some vets or vet technicians do a home call for things like this. Call around and ask. They do the injection of the anesthetic (an overdose) and the pet goes peacefully.

Some vets will come to your house to put her to sleep. If she is suffering, this is what you need to do. I know it's hard - been there, done that. It is a very peaceful way for them to die. After they give her the shot, you can hold her until she goes to "sleep". They will confirm when she is gone and you can give her a proper burial.

You need to do what's right. A dog that is in that bad of shape is most likely suffering, and you need to have him/her euthanized. Take your pet to the vet and have it put to sleep, or you're just being selfish and cruel.

I know how you feel. But I agree with the others, the best way is to talk to your vet. Some do make house calls. Good luck and God Bless!

Could you explain this to the vet, and maybe they can come to your house? I understand it would be stressful and strange to the dog, especially during his final moments.
All you have to do is ask. They'll either say yes or no. Ask around also.

Puting him to sleep is the only humane way to do it.
The vet will let u hold him.
It's quick and painless.
If u let him suffer...............u'll never forgive ur self

It might sound harsh but a 22 does work well with a dog. I stopped taking my dogs to the vet when I watched it sufficate and die slowly. It Broke my heart.

1 Shot is Quick and Painless if you do it right. Its not easy or fun but it works and they dont suffer.
