I remember so vividly, every morning, before school began, the bell would ring, and all the students would stand at attention to the flag, with their right hands laid on their hearts, while the American flag would be slowly drawn up to the top of the pole...all in silence, standing ever so still, then you hear all in of us sing, God bless America, followed by Pledge of Allegiance to the flag, followed by the National Anthem....then the bell would ring again...and all the students, myself included would quickly walk to our homeroom classes & begin our day in school. We were taught at an early age to honor our flag, what it stands for, our country. The year was 1971...and continued on until I graduated in 1978. There weren't any school shootings, metal detectors, or guns. Violence was not tolerated.

I teach and we still say the pledge to the flag in our classrooms every morning (followed by the pledge to our state flag and a moment of silence.) I wish I could also say the same about the other stuff. I break up and prevent fights several times a day. It isn't tolerated, but it is an uphill battle with today's youth. We can't exactly pray publicly, but I do pray alot. We desperately need God in schools and everywhere.

It's very possible to learn to sing well. You just need to know the right methods. Learn here https://tr.im/gJVMy

Singing teachers will cost money and can be expensive so they're not for everyone. Singing can be learned so it's not an "either you have it or you don't" kind of thing.

Whether you sound like crap or you're decent, I recommend this singing course. It's one of the best methods to learn to sing well in a short amount of time. It's all about using efficient techniques that work.

After the pledge, we either sang "America The Beautiful" or "My Country 'Tis of Thee"--but, BEFORE the pledge and the anthem, we----GASP---said a PRAYER!!!!!!!!! Oh, my golly! Thank You for the flowers so sweet, Thank You for the food we eat, Thank You for the birds that sing, Thank You God, for everything. Amen.

I sure do, all the way through school. And we had prayer and Bible reading.
We also had bomb drills (early 60's).
School was fun to me, I loved it and was not scared to go. I learned a lot, too. Several people who graduated with me became doctors and other professionals.
It amazes me how little the kids learn at school now days.

I sure do. We would all stand for the pledge, even the one kid who would stand and not recite the pledge because of his religion. Afterwords we were allowed to choose which patriotic song we wanted to sing.
