35-40%, and that there are only around 8% black players left, and then a small percent being Asian and the rest are white guys. What's the deal here? Pretty soon, teams will have more than half of their players being Spanish speaking only. Is there not enough talent coming out of America? The Colleges and Universities? What's going on here. What got me thinking about it was this photo I saw on Yahoo sports from the Mets/Marlins game today when their was a fight. Check it out. I realized that every player or coach in this caption was Spanish, except for Dan Uggla. Sandy Alomar Sr., Miguel Olivo, Jose Reyes, Fredi Gonzalez and Miguel Cabrera are all hispanic and in the picture frame. It really made me wonder, and then I took a look at all of the 30 teams rosters, and there are so many Dominican Republic, Cubans, Venezuelans, etc. I don't have a problem with this, but come on, don't we have a big talent pool here in America? I can understand that hispanics might represent 10

-15 % of the majors, but it's closing in on 40%. And these guys aren't homegrown talent, they are foreigners coming to America to play baseball, some of them fleeing Cuba illegally to come here, i.e. Betancourt from the Mariners. I don't have a problem with a smaller %, but one day, the hispanics might make up 75% of baseball, like blacks make up 75% of football and 85-90% of basketball, and as a white guy, you start to say, "where did all the white athletes go??" We have hockey, but that's about it. Does anybody else feel this way?

You need too take a good look at your question. Why does it matter what color the player is. Why don;t you focus on the skill of the player and enjoy the game. That's what sports are really about. To enjoy them not wonder why there has been a lapse in whites of the game. If it makes you happy guess who still owns the teams. Old white males who are into making money. Now you should go and ask the owners and managers why they are selecting more and more Hispanic athletes too play the game. I can tell you why...they want too win and make money. Just as in the NFL. Those franchises are owned by white males who want to win and make MONEY. When it all comes down too it its about money. Also, if Hispanic athletes are more athletic than their white counterparts guess who's going to get the job sir? As soon as you realize that the better. The NBA is the same way. Do take heart however their will always be white athletes in all spectator sports because their are some very talented white athletes. Just as of late franchise owners are learning the truth. People of color by far are the better athletes. Sorry if this makes you angry but that's life. Maybe if Caucasian America wold stop being such bigots towards minorities and concentrated on more important things in life then maybe you'll come out better. God has a funny way of chastising hatred and jealousy.

I think motivation is a big factor in the situation. Too many of the hispanic athletes who grew up in other countries trained as hard as they could at baseball because that was their ticket to America, wealth, and an overall better life. American kids are already here and spoiled for the most part. The majority do not have the same kind of drive.
The same argument could be made about many employment options. We're falling behind in science & math. From what I see, a lot of young people aren't even being taught to speak and write English properly.

I don't believe it's racist at all.
The same thing has been discussed here about how much of "english football" is actually english (as in soccer). It was even talked about on the news not so long ago when the first english team to play in a match was made up of completely international talent. More and more international players are being brought over just not for talent, but for also cost. With international players, and international managers and even international owners, It's not exactly american football when americans aren't exactly taking part.
Just imagine how much cheaper a player from South America would be compared to a North American player out of college or from another team. Unfortunately it's an issue that most sports will face especially when currency rates would allow you to save an absolute fortune when rates are low.

It's a regional thing, they grow up from a small age and play until they get drafted into the majors. They are only interested in Baseball and I also think that in places like the DR, it's their only way of getting out and becoming successful. They are driven and they love the game.
Baseball is unfortunately not the biggest sport in America anymore, I'd say the NFL has taken the lead, and then there is basketball, hockey, track and field... In other words in America we have choices, in many latino communities it is only Baseball. This is why the picture you described is so.

I agree with the answerer talking about tv's and how most of these players come from countries where they don't have electronics so baseball is one of the thinks they can do. Most Americans want to play football and basketball because they don't think it's "boring" like baseball. I like having all of these latino players however I believe their have been successful players from every culture. Nolan Ryan, Vladimir Guerro, Pudge Rodriguez, Curt Shilling, Marlon Byrd, Ichiro Suzuki, Alex Rodriguez, Roberto Clemente, Jackie Robinson etc.
Lighten up! Baseball is enjoyed by players and fans of different races / backgrounds! That is how all sports should be.

They are good ball players, they play hard, and they have a lot to offer. For many Latino players they see baseball as their way out of poverty and are very motivated to improve their game while white players are not motivated and view baseball as a fun past time growing up and develop other interest along the way. I believe you will see even more Latinos in MLB in the years to come.

So what's your point? What kind of statement are you trying to make. What's your question? JimBob is right, you are a racist and I'm no liberal. What is it you want, a squeaky clean all white major leagues again like it was prior to 1947? Why don't you take your racist BS somewhere else? People like you make me sick.

Dude, talent rules in professional sports. You don't hear Asians complaining about why there are few or no Asians in professional sports. They're just not as athletic.
Just accept the fact that whites are not as talented as the Latinos in baseball, just like blacks dominate football and basketball because they're more physically gifted.

FYI any response or question that starts "I'm not racist" makes a lot of people assume you are!
Its a culture thing... our kids don't spend their time outside playing ball sports anymore! They are too busy playing Halo 3 on the new PS3! Those latin countries you mentioned don't have anything expensive to play with (computers, PS#, Xbox and so on, so they go outside and play sports!

It's because those DRs, PRs, Mexicans, and South Americans are better talented and better practiced. To be honest, that's mostly what they all do because they want to make it to the Majors when they grow up.
