I'll let Trent say this in his own words:
Back in April, Trent made an appearance on CMT's Flameworthy 2003 Video Music Awards Tribute to Johnny Cash where he was honored as the" "Greatest Man in Country Music" He also offered this comment on the first time he witnessed the remaking of his song.

"We were in the studio, getting ready to work -- and I popped it in," Reznor says. "By the end I was really on the verge of tears. I'm working with Zach de la Rocha, and I told him to take a look. At the end of it, there was just dead silence. There was, like, this moist clearing of our throats and then, 'Uh, OK, let's get some coffee.''

In my opinion, Cash OWNS the song now. It's one of the best combinations of singer and song ever and the video (for a change) actually increases its power. Truly a remarkable piece of work.

You are clearly showing a great deal of intelligence and a very open mind to be able to recognise quality music of a genre that you would not normally listen too. In music there is much reward to those with an open mind. My voice is very similar to Johhny Cash's so recently I learned to play Hurt on the guitar, really pleased with the result. Try listening to Johnny Cash and June Carter singing "It Takes One To Know Me" a very beautiful song. Also by Johnny Cash I Won't Back Down Man In Black Rose Of My Heart Rock Island Line Wreck Of The Old 97 Daddy Sang Bass Will The Circle Be Unbroken The Old Account Home Of The Blues He Turned The Water Into Wine The Streets Of Laredo Also the original San Quentin as performed in the prison. I Hope you enjoy my suggestions.

Hey dymond maybe next time you should CHECK the SONGWRITER CREDITS. Trent Reznor WROTE the song, heck watch next time the video is on if you can't look it up. The song was out by NIN like 2-3 years BEFORE Johnny Cash did the cover. My understanding was that he was thrilled about the cover version in the end. I don't if he liked it at first or not, never heard that part.

It hurts my eyes to see Trent Reznor as a chubby, crewcutted, middle-aged soccer dad!

At first he didn't like it but then he seen the video and he ended up loving it. I didn't like it at first but it kinda grew on me. I still prefer Trent's version.
