Kenny Rogers first rock band with their 1st top ten hit?

The First Edition was the band's name but I'm not sure what their first hit was. Sorry.
Edited to add that their first hit was "Just Dropped In (To See What My Conditions In)" . It went to number 5 and their next hit was "Ruby Don't Take Your Love to Town." He was with the New Christy Minstrals before but I don't remember them having any top 10 hits.

The New Christy Minstrels had a top 20 hit with "Green, Green" in 1963. Barry McGuire, who later had a big hit with "Eve Of Destruction", was the lead singer on that song.
