I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that irt can be a hard media to 'break into' as well as the amount of people who want to be actors of one sort or another. You have to be very good dealing with rejection, as well as a little luck. Often it's important to network--it's not what you know but who you know idea--and just keep putting yourself out there and take as much criticism as you can as constructive.

What makes you think there are so many? A couple of dozen, maybe? Few enough to count anyway, kids on disney, many of whom are not as young as their characters.. and a few hundred adult actors who work regularly in films.
It is true that you have to have the right look first and then the ability to perform in a way that makes people want to see you perform again. This is called "star quality" or charisma. very few people have it. Charisma is more important than beauty, as beauty might be accompanied by rudeness or vanity or some other bad quality, like studpidity (Miss Jr North Carolina was it?) Anyway. to get started you have to have a marketable look, agents will know what that is. YOu may never make it big or beome a star or be famous. You will be lucky to earn a living at it. The average SAG actor makes about $75 a year. It takes a lifetime of dedication to become an actor. Now, the reason why it is so hard is that everyone thinks they have talent and they dont. And colleges and professional acting schools are flooding the industry with actors that have no chance of makeing it because political correctness and wanting to make a buck and keep theri jobs prevents them from telling their students they are lemons. So every year tens of thousands of new lemons enter the industry thinking they have been trained to become actors and that there are jobs for them . Both concepts are not true. They have not been trained and there are no jobs. The kids on disney have been in the biz since they were able to walk, or they have famous relatives from whom they inherited talent and looks and a foot in the door. And thats the truth -pffftt!

Yes, there are many actors and actresses on Disney Channel, but compared to the entire world, there isn't. It's very hard to become an actress, and you have to have a lot of support. I am an actress, model, and singer and it is very hard work and takes much of my time. In the end it is all worth it for me, but I am a very determined person who will keep on going. It takes a lot to become one, but if you are willing to sacrifice much of your time, effort, and hard work, then go for it! Just remember that fame is not everything. Trust me, it is not the best. NO privacy, and much rudeness. There are great fans, but sometimes it's overwhelming. The jealousy is the worst. So just remember that you act from your heart, not for the fame. Don't get me wrong, the fame and money is good, but it shouldn't be the reason that you want to act. If you want to act because you want to and not only for the fame then GO FOR IT! Good luck and I hope I helped.

Those kids are lucky. Some of those kids parents' even have to PAY in order for them to be actors. The acting world is ugly.
You could get lucky if you started acting out as a young child, like 3 or 4. That's how Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen started off. But I guess since you didn't, you need to work real hard.
Go to auditions and sign up for plays. Try to get noticed. Who knows, you might be lucky,
