Ask what's a normal bedtime from the Parents, and get an Idea what works from them. Get them ready and in bed and read to them if they want you to.. If your lucky that will settle them down. Drinking milk can help get them sleepy too. When it's time for bed, make sure they are not doing anything hyper. You want to slow then down about an hour before bed time if possible. It can be hard sometimes when you don't know them but if you get them talking about school or their friends, they like that because they see you are interested in them. They are better when they get comfortable with you. They will want to know about you, you can tell them as much as you care to. These things work for me with kids that age.Just make sure if they make a mess they pick it up and put it away before bed. It can be fun if they feel comfortable around you, and you with them. Just stay calm and you'll be fine.

Bring a little bag with a few new and interesting books, games, or toys. Kids like to have somebody play a game with them like apples to oranges, don't break the ice, or chutes and ladders. Usually their parents don't take the time to do such things. You might also plan something to work off the energy, like some dancing (assuming you have some fun music and don't mind doing the bunny hop or other kid like dances). You can plan a snack that they can make for after dinner such as microwaved s'mores. Kids love to watch the marshmallows puff up, and they taste good.
You will have to just tell them it is time to get ready for bed. YOu may need to bribe them, though. Say you will read them a story or something after they get into their pjs and brush the teeth.
Mostly, it is just safety first though. Make sure to have all the phone numbers, allergy information, doctor's number, and any other things you should know. Never tell anyone over the phone that you are "alone with the kids" and never answer the door!!!!! Make sure all the doors are locked and don't let the kids out. That is the most important.
Have fun.

For one make a treat after diner and watch a movie read a book put them in bed and goodnight. Try this next time you babysit. By the way play a game and always be nice and very cool. Then when they are in bed you should clean the kitchen and the living room and all the other messes were made.

Get them tired by playing a lot with them. About 9 or 9:30, tell them it's time to get ready for bed and you will then read to them. That should quiet them down. Good luck!

Yes, I was like you but the best thing to do is don't stand for any nonsense. If they mess about you tell them it is wrong and make them sit in a room on there own.
Also you can threaten them with going to bed early or bribe them with going to bed late or sweets the next time u bsit

let them know who's in charge!!! don't threaten them with "i'm going to tell your mommy when she gets home" just be like "we are going to bed--NOW". if they give you any trouble about "your not the boss of me" tell them you ARE the boss until their parents get home.
on a happier note--how to have fun
do what they like, but keep it within boundaries by setting them first!!! (like no running in the house etc.)
kids their age love if you draw or do something else your good at with them. it's fun to show them how to do things, but don't take all the glory and let them win a few times. also, BE FUNNY! joke around with them, let them know that your fun, but you are the adult here!
lastly, review your babysitting instructions from the parents or safety tips!!!! have all the phone numbers neccisary in case. GOOD LUCK!

My best tip is to keep them very active as long as you can! Play games, tag etc. You might get a little tired but once its time for bed they will go to sleep right away.
