I'm OK with the "Bayou City" although it's anything but."H-Town" sounds so ghetto like "SA" & we ALL know how THAT'S really spelled lol.

LOL. I see why Atlanta is called "hotlanta" & I know the nicknames for the other ones. Maybe I just personally don't like the name which is my right & others right to use it as well. I wonder what Seattle is called.

Actually, I can recall that phrase being used by Calvin Murphy and Bill Worrell during the Houston Rocket's back-to-back NBA Championship games.
A lot of cities have nicknames like this. Beantown, Chitown, etc.
I don't take it as gang banger speak.

Oh by the way, Houston is called the Bayou City because it has many, many bayous. Most are now concrete lined ditches thanks to flood control programs in Harris County.
Some natural bayous that are now concrete ditches are Keegan's, Huntington, Braes, Buffalo, Sims, plus about twenty five others.
Some creeks that are no more than bayous are Bear, Mayde, Cypress, Caney, Clear, and more.
Pull up the Harris County Flood Control District website map and you see all the many bayous and creeks that lace the County, hence Houston's nickname "The Bayou City".

Yes.. that's my experience, pretty much ghetto gangsta types use it and few, if any, other people.

Space City was best... but that was when we had a Space Program that did stuff and was interesting.

I know we are Bayou City ,but even after living her for 15 years I still think of New Orleans for that....

No, unlike the ignorant post directly above me, it isn't an imitation of O-town. Houston has been "H-town" since the 70s. It was given the nickname by truckers on their CB radios.

Nowadays, though... it seems like only the gangsta culture uses it.

It started in the '60s by truckers. I never liked it but the gangstas can't claim it as their own.

A copy of O-Town. Everything is copied from other cities. To answer your question, it's for wannabes.
