The healthcare costs associated with these prisoners is alarmingly high - and we don't owe them that. Now that they are no longer any harm to anyone, should prisoners who are old and frail just be released?

rerugged, the answer can't be "they'd just get free stuff through some other program" - the answer has to be no free stuff.

no if they did the crime make them pay. let the innocent ones go. or eye for an eye. and haeth care in prison never heard of that. and they will get everything for free if they are out so what makes a differants?

Released to what? Living in the street to die? I don't even have a suggestion in answer to this question. It seems we are now being faced with an awful lot of these types of dilemmas within our country. Maybe they could just release the ones who have family to take care of them and the ones who have some kind of income.

No. The punishment should fit the crime. If elderly prisoners were released, they would end up in county nursing homes and would have to use Medicaid. There would be no savings.

Are you kidding what if they go home! Bring back smoking I say, much less people used to live too long for any ones good.
