I think this may be a joke or a riddle, but i am answering it seriously:
the bible for one, not a children's book;
if you r a creationist the chicken came first because "G*d created the birds of the air" not the eggs of the nest.
whereas if you are looking to science to answer which came first chicken or egg, you would answer egg because the changes that happen in evolutionary theory are genetic accidents that either improve your survival, showing up in the embryo (or egg) first and therefore make the species stronger, or decrease your viability and lead to death of that individual. This means that mistakes are saved that make that member better able to survive and multiply.
the children's book might be "the little red hen"

Obviously its an egg. The question doesn't ask "What came first the chicken or the chicken egg". Other animals produced eggs long before the chicken came along. ;-)

I don't know which book, but the egg definatetly came before the chicken did. Before chickens were around, dinosaurs were laying eggs.

It depends on your definition. Do you define a "chicken egg" as an egg that a chicken lays? If so, the chicken came first. Or do you define it as an egg a chicken hatches out of? If so, the egg came first.
