I am just wondering. Is it because fear = power?

yes, fear=power.
Keep the terror alerts at a high level, constantly remind the american public of the grave situation they're in, and you will get a population that will blindly follow whatever lead you give them, and give up all their personal freedoms for some feeling of...'safety'.

it's a tactical political tool used by many governments around the world.

As a liberal, I'm a little nervous about claiming Conservatives are negative in some way, while assuming that we Liberals aren't.

But, let's give it a shot:

I think Conservatives are simply more fearful. Generally, Conservatives tend to be more "Law and Order" types, which implies a fear of crime. They tend to be more Military oriented, which implies a fear of invasion. And they tend to not trust government, implying that they fear being ripped off.

I don't think the leaders of the Conservative movement generate fear to get power, I think they profit by addressing the fears of the general conservatives.

They cry using fact Bush "took no action to go off 9/eleven," yet yet if he had executed something in the past the towers and the Pentagon had come down, no person could have believed him that the homes might have been long previous day after on the instant and he'd have been categorized a reactionist conflict-monger. by way of the way, everyone who thinks 9/eleven became an interior interest is an entire flake.

Basically though it isn't all conservatives it is mostly the neo-cons like the president. I've noticed that every single time some questionable piece of legislation comes up there is some kind of terrorist threat that turns out to be false only after it is signed. Luckily the people were not fooled by the ridiculous direct comparison between democrats and terrorists during the 2006 election at least those who are not incredibly gullible or a neocons.

Hermann Goering, Nazi Reichmarshall, said it best. Obviously it works.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."

Why do parents worry about things like paying bills, conserving electricity, house fires, break-ins and the safety of their children? Kids are more interested in having fun and going to parties. Wouldn't it be much better if we all acted like kids and just "live"?

What you call "fear mongering" is acting responsibly.

Because they can't win anything on the legitimacy of their own ideas and influence, they need to use fear as a tactic just like the Nazi regime...

Does it really matter how your question is answered or are you pretty much stuck on the fear=power thing? Cause we could save alot of time here if you'd just stick with your answer and not make me waste my breath when I say
"maybe conservatives truly believe that we, as a nation, have something to fear"

That was a waste, wasn't it . .

When people are afraid they look to others for help. That is when they step in, try to convince everyone they stand for security and take away freedom piece by piece everywhere they can. It is all in the name of national security, of course, and any information about it is classified.

They are scared to death to talk REAL issues so they have to resort to fear tactics, personal attacks and name calling like little children.

It is pretty sad when they have to use such tactics because they know the truth will expose them to the world.
