=31/6-16/6
=15/6= 2 3/6= 2 1/2

the answer is 2 6/12 then reduce 2 1/2 How?
convert the denominator so they are both even in this case 12
5 2/12- 2 8/12 but the numerator is smaller for the first fraction. that is why you take the whole number five and make it a 4 then you add the denominator to the top which equals 14 then you subtract that with 8 and you get 6 for your numerator and the denominator is 12 so the answer is 2 6/12 or 1/2 then subtract whole number that is 4-2= 2

5 1/6 - 2 2/3 =
31/6 - 8/3 =
31/6 - 16/6 =
15/6 =
2 3/6 =
2 1/2
It's all about the common denominator.

u want to turn both into fractions with same denominator. 6 will work nicely.
5 1/6 is the same thing as 31/6, right?
2 2/3 is the same thing as 2 4/6 or 16/6, right?
now just subtract 16/6 from 31/6, and you have the answer.
think
think
think
15/6
which expressed more commonly as
2 3/6 or 2 1/2

To answer this I would first change the numbers from being in the form they are in.
5 and 1/6 becomes 31/6 since 5 = 30/6
2 and 2/3 becomes 8/3 since 2 = 6/3
Now dividing 30/6 by two gives us 15/3
Now you can add the two fractions easily since they have the same number on the bottom.
So you have 15/3 + 8/3 which is 23/3
This can then be simplified to become 7 and 2/3.

change them to improper fractions first :
[5(6)+1]/6 - [2(3)+2]/3
31/6 - 8/3
find a least common denominator, in this case 6 or (3)(2) and make them both have the same denominator.
the first one already has a six on the bottom, so you leave it alone. the second one has a 3 on the bottom, so you have to multiply by 2 to get six on the bottom, and you have to do to the top, what you do to the bottom, so you multiply the top by 2 also . . .
31/6 - 16/6
now that you have the same denominator, just subtract the numerators and leave your answer over 6 ...
(31-16)/6
15/6
simplify, since both the top and bottom are divisible by 3, simplify by dividing both parts by 3, so
5/2 or 2 1/2 is your final answer
lotsa luck
